About
Liza Barnum, Proprietor
The Morgan Samuels Inn was purchased in the fall of 2019 by Reg & Liza Barnum of Canandaigua, for the purpose of an Events Venue and Inn, to be run by Liza.
After selling the family country store, “The Cheshire Union & The Company Store”, Liza became a Master Gardener & started her own landscape company & cleaning business. She was also a gardener for the late Peggy Wegman. Obviously Gardening is a passion of Liza’s, so when she saw this property for the first time… the property and gardens were in much need of TLC, she took on the challenge. The first year at the Inn was total discovery… trying to figure out what was here amongst all the golden rod, overgrown weeds & ivy’s. Liza has been Inspired by an essay written by Verna Sutherland in 1931, in her Daughters of the American Revolution application, which describes her grandfather’s home, "The Stone House" and all the gardens. Liza has tried to recreate some of Verna’s descriptions (see History).
Each Winter, Liza starts her own seeds in the basement of the Inn and then in the spring, she moves everything to the Greenhouses to blossom. Anxiously we await the final planting in the spring, filling all the flower pots & the gardens around the mansion and throughout the grounds.
